March 2017 Newsletter

Commander’s Message:

Greetings fellow Legionnaires.  Elections are coming up in May for our Post officers.  There are nine Officer Positions available including Commander, 1st Vice Commander, 2nd Vice Commander, Adjutant, Finance Officer, Post Historian, Post Chaplain, Post Service Officer, and Sergeant-at-Arms.  If you have anyone you wish to nominate, or if you would like to nominate yourself, contact me and I will consolidate the names.  During May’s meeting we will vote for the new members and swear them in.  Either a 2nd District Officer, or Department of Kansas Officer will attend our May meeting and swear in our new officers.  As an elected officer you have a great opportunity to affect change and help foster Americanism and Veteran needs across our community.

I hope you are enjoying our new website kslegion350.org.  If you have any suggestions please do not hesitate to let I, or any other officer know.  We want this site to be informative and easy to navigate through.  You can also visit the National and State’s website as well.  There is a wide range of useful information on each site including our District’s calendar.  Below are the web addresses for both the National and State sites.  If you can’t make it to our meeting you can always check our bulletin board at the Civic Center next to the kitchen entrance.  Keep informed, and encourage others to do so as well.  http://www.legion.org/, http://www.ksamlegion.org/.

Don’t forget to invite any veterans who are not members to our next meeting and perhaps joining the American Legion.  Members who have been coming to our meeting I’d like to say thank you.  I encourage those who have not been attending to put it on your calendar and start.  Our next two meetings will be on Tuesday, March 7, and Tuesday, April 4 at 7:00pm in Suite 118 at the Life Spring Church, 206 North Webster Street, Spring Hill, KS.  Until further notice we will be meeting at the Life Spring Church while the City completes the improvements to the Civic Center.  Hope to see you there. http://www.legion.org/renew.

The citizens of America … are, from this period, to be considered as the actors on a most conspicuous theater, which seems to be peculiarly designated by Providence for the display of human greatness and felicity.” Written by George Washington in a Circular to the States, 1783

American Legion Auxiliary:

We had a very busy month.  We are preparing year end reports to be submitted by March 1st.  I think we may be  a few days late.  Call to Convention is early this year so Ladies get your Community Service reports into Helen as soon as possible.  Helen and Ellen attended the Department Winter Form held in Olathe for 2 days and learned a lot of valuable info.  We made a delivery to Leavenworth on the 9th of February of $27.00 to Cheer Shop, $1,179.50 to used clothing, and $360.50 of home baked cookies. We ended up with 104 1/2 dozen cookies. Thanks to all who helped.  We are working on Girls State which  will be June 4th – 9th at KU campus and Girls State Tea on May 6th in Olathe.  We signed up to get a booth for Daffodil Days in April to sell chances on a lap Quilt made by the Paola Quilting Guild.  We are busy getting ready for Poppy Day in May.  We will be setting up a meeting with Legion to make plans for Memorial Day. Many busy days ahead.
