Commander’s Message:

Greetings fellow Legionnaires.  We had great weather and great turnout for Spring Hill’s Fall Festival in September.  I want to thank all the members for participating including the Sons of the American Legion, American Legion Riders and Ladies Auxiliary.  The American Legion Riders were in full force.  It seemed as though their line stretched the entire parade route.  It’s a great way to start the parade.  This year the Boys and Girl Scout Troops and Packs help pass out flags to the crowd.  It was a smashing success.  Our booth this year did outstanding.  We raised over $25.00 with our raffle.
The fund raiser booth over the summer at the Flea Market and Price Chopper was a smashing success.  I cannot thank the members enough who have stepped up to the plate and helped over the summer.  Through your efforts we’ve raised hundreds of dollars that can and will be used to help local Veterans.  Thank you.
Please set aside Saturday, November 5, on your calendar for the 11th annual Spring Hill Veteran’s Day Ceremony sponsored by the Auxiliary.  These events are quickly becoming one of the best ceremonies in the area.  Come out and enjoy the event and show your support.
I’m glad you’re taking advantage of our new Post website, http://kslegion350.org.  If you have any suggestions please let me, or our 2nd Vice Commander, Tommy Holland, know.  We’d like to make our website entertaining and informative, but we need you to help us make it better.  You can also take advantage of the American Legion national website, and/or 2nd District’s website.  Legion.org has a wealth of information including a Benefits Calculator where you can determine your eligibility for hundreds of available benefits.  If you don’t have internet access please come to our meetings and you will hear what correspondence we received the prior month.  You can also stop by the Civic Center and see what is posted on our bulletin board.  Keep informed, and encourage others to do so as well. http://www.legion.org/, http://www.ksamlegion.org/.
For those who have renewed their membership I want to express my gratitude.  If you have not received your renewal notice please contact me at (913) 530-4598.  If you have received the notice, and you have not returned it to the Post, please fill it out and return soonest.  Let us make a commitment to grow our unit.  If you know of any veterans who are not members talk with them about joining.  Bring them to one of our meetings.  I want to thank the members who have been attending our monthly meetings and encourage those who have not to put it on your calendar to start.  Our October meeting will be on Tuesday, October 4, at 7:00pm in Room 10 at Spring Hill’s Civic Center, and our November meeting will be on Tuesday, November 1, at 7:00pm in Room 10 at the Spring Hill Civic Center.  Hope to see you there.

2nd Vice Commander’s Message:

Fellow Vets, our post in conjunction with the Spring Hill Fire Department and the local Boy Scout troop will be conducting an Unserviceable Flags Ceremony on Sunday, October 16th, 2016 at 1:30PM at the Spring Hill Fire Department. If you or someone you know has any flags that are no longer serviceable please turn them in to be retired at the ceremony.

Please remember:

“A Flag may be a flimsy bit of printed gauze, or a beautiful banner of finest silk. Its intrinsic value may be trifling or great; but its real value is beyond price, for it is a precious symbol of all that we and our comrades have worked for and lived for, and died for a free Nation of free men, true to the faith of the past, devoted to the ideals and practice of Justice, Freedom and Democracy.”

American Legion Auxiliary: We had a busy September.  We held our first meeting back on Sept. 12th.  We are geared up and ready to get membership renewals going.  If you didn’t get a renewal slip in the mail please contact Ellen Moreland.  We had 3 members walk in the Fall Festival parade and Helen and Gloria work in the booth selling chances on our quilt raffle.  We are busy getting items ready for Christmas.  The gifts for Christmas must be in by the 15th of October.  We donated a wreath this year for the Eisenhower Pilgrimage. Some of us are planning on attending the Pilgrimage in Abilene.  Plans are also in the works for the 11th annual VA celebration.  Invitations have already been mailed out to all the District 2 American Legion Posts.  We are making plans to attend the District 2 Home Coming dinner on October 8th. I want to thank all my members who have renewed their memberships early.

President: Ellen Moreland (913) 592-2430
